Transgender Day of Remembrance 2018
Remembering lives lost and standing together against violence.
Please join the San Mateo County LGBTQ community at the San Mateo Public Library, 55 W 3rd Avenue, San Mateo, California, 94402, for Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 from 5:00-7:00pm. County Supervisor, Dave Pine (District 1) will provide welcoming remarks to the community.
Transgender Day of Remembrance is an opportunity for us to come together and remember those who have lost their lives to anti-transgender violence.
Due to unhealthy air quality, we adjusting the event to remove the outside Procession and instead encourage people to learn from the Resource Tables and partake in food and refreshments. We also have live music at this time. The Program will start at 5:30pm which includes a Blessing, remarks from the faith community, and Welcome from County Supervisor Dave Pine (District 1). Speakers include Anthony Ross, Program Manager for the new Office of Transgender Affairs with Santa Clara County, Alex Chen from the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Youth Activitist Speakers, Lily Zheng, and then closing with an Open Mic.
Although not every person represented during the Day of Remembrance self-identified as transgender— --each was a victim of violence based on bias against transgender people.
We are happy to share the files that were compiled and created for Transgender Day of Remembrance. The National Day of Remembrance is November 20 so please feel free to utilize these files for any and all TDOR events. If you choose to use this resource, please let Annette Pakhchian, SMC Community Program Specialist, know as she is tracking this as a resource. Thank you!
